homegrown, handmade, heartfelt homemaking
Hi, I’m Cindy, and welcome to my sweet li’l home in the country. (Yes, that wild tangle of lushness is the view from my back door.) Hope you’ll join me and my husband Scott in simplifying our lives, taming our 1.7-ish acres of land, and living a more sustainable, self-reliant lifestyle as we joyfully embrace #TheScratchLife.
The Scratch Life is a blog dedicated to finding the extraordinary in the ordinary while creating a comfy, cozy home and garden - a holy respite - filed with peace, contentment, and love, with a little help from above.
We have a Dream of Self-Sufficiency
Dream It
After years of dreaming about simplifying, getting back to basics, gardening, making my own butter, bread, cheese, sewing my own clothes, and being self-sufficient, 2020 has shown me the time to make that dream a reality is NOW!
Build It
Fortunately, we live on 1.7 acres in the country, so we’ve got some elbowroom, and, while I am a creative dreamer whose not afraid to get my hands dirty, my husband is super handy, and mechanically inclined. (What a great combo we make!)
Grow It
In 2021, at ages 56 & 58, we grew food for the first time! We started with four 4x8 and two 3x3 foot raised beds in which we harvested a decent amount of produce. In 2026, we’re setting a super lofty goal to grow a year’s worth of food!
We hope you’ll come along with us on our adventure In Homesteading!
